On Thursday 16th March, LCA Singers travelled down to the Lincoln Methodist Church to compete in the Lincoln Music & Drama Festival.
Having performed as part of Young Voices in Sheffield in January, the choir (which features students from year 8 up to year 12) did not have as long as usual to prepare their two contrasting pieces and as such had a full on term of 3 rehearsals per week.
Their first song was a 2 part arrangement of Rodgers & Hammerstein's You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel. The choir sang this beautifully, performing with real feeling and they then followed this performance with a 3 part song called Chariot's Comin', featuring the melody of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. The choir sang this with strength and attack and as such achieved an excellent contrast with the first piece.
The class (Secondary School Choirs) was small but tough and LCA Singers competed against a chamber group from Priory LSST. After great feedback for both choirs from the adjudicator, they were delighted to achieve a Commendation and a Distinction for their pieces, gaining a total of 173 and winning the class-a fantastic achievement!
Be sure to see our festival-winning choir perform their songs at the Spring concert on Tuesday 28th March, 6.30pm in West Hall.
